American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR Class

Cost of the class is $50 and includes a mouth-to-mouth barrier device and textbook. Class participants are asked to pay prior to the class and retrieve their textbook at that time to read before the first class.

This class is intended for the lay rescuer who needs a credential documenting successful completion of CPR.

Cost for the class is $55 and includes a mouth-to-mouth barrier device and written materials. Class participants are asked to pay prior to the class.

The class is intended for those people who work in healthcare and are required to have documentation that they have successfully completed a course in Healthcare Provider CPR.

First Aid

Cost for the class is $45 and includes a manual, which will be used as the textbook/workbook for the class. This course is video-based and includes peer and manikin practice and case discussions. Medical, injury, respiratory and environmental emergencies will be covered in the class. You must have a current AHA card for First Aid certification.

Sibling Preparation Class

The relationship between siblings is one that lasts a lifetime, and preparing children for the birth of a new baby is an important beginning.

Children will have the opportunity to prepare for the new baby by practicing in sibling related activities. Each child will learn how to handle and play with the newborn and how to assist mom and dad with the baby’s cares. Parents and children will also tour the labor and delivery room and nursery at Lakewood Health System.

Feeding Options Class

Expecting mothers and coaches are welcome to discuss the basics about breastfeeding and bottle feeding to help parents make an informed decision on how to decide what’s right for their family.

Baby Spa Class

This interactive class will teach parents about infant signing, infant massage and aromatherapy. Infant signing is an innovative communication tool parents can use before their child is able to speak and even walk. After learning how to use infant signing, parents will receive a baby signing reference to take home.

Andrea Broughten, Lakewood Health System’s certified infant massage therapist will lead the infant massage session. Parents will learn how to use infant massage to help alleviate pain from common infant problems like colic and constipation.

The aromatherapy session will give parents information about the benefits of using the sense of smell during labor and in the stages after the baby is born.

Prepared Childbirth Classes

This class is free to those planning to deliver at Lakewood Health System.

 

The birthing class is designed to help expecting moms and coaches learn about what to expect during pregnancy, labor, delivery and the special time following the birth of the baby.  Key topics include:

Expecting mothers in their fifth and eighth months of pregnancy are welcome to participate in the prepared childbirth class. Moms are encouraged to bring a coach to assist with their preparation.
