Annual Theme
The purpose of the Annual Theme, which coincides with the school year calendar, is to heighten awareness of the Foundation and its mission. The theme will be promoted at all Foundation fundraising events to give donors an issue that will allow for a sense of ownership.
2009 Annual Theme - STABILITY BALLS
The fitness balls, which are widely used within physical therapy, maintain core muscles and help to create a strong sense of balance, and also have a direct correlation with increased stimulation in the brain. Lakewood Health System and the local school districts work cooperatively to help students find ways to gain and maintain healthy lifestyles while stimulating their minds.
2007-2008 Annual Theme – ON-SITE WORKPLACE WELLNESS (plus a continuation of the STEP TO IT AT SCHOOL Annual Theme program)
The On-site Workplace Wellness program provides businesses in our service area the opportunity to have health screenings and health education for employees at their worksite, promoting healthy worksites and healthy communities.
2006-2007 Annual Theme - STEP TO IT AT SCHOOL
The Step To It At School walking program is a fun fitness program that kids can do at school with their friends and teachers! Students will be given a tracking book - or you can download it from this site. The book contains weekly tracking sheets to record the number of steps that the student takes each day. At the end of the week, students are able to do a simple calculation which will turn the steps into the total number of miles walked for the week.
This program is not a competition. Students will participate at their own pace and achieve their own goals. You’ll be surprised at how quickly those steps add up! And, as they add up the miles, they’ll be eligible for awesome prizes!
There will be a Step To It At School celebration in May for all students who complete the program. We will celebrate with food, games, awards and prize drawings. You won’t want to miss it! For more details check out: www.lakewoodhealthsystem/step-to-it

The Lakewood Health System Foundation is pleased to announce the launching of our third annual health theme, "Methamphetamine: The Facts." The theme was developed by the Lakewood Health System Education Department and will be promoted at various community and Foundation events.
The Lakewood Health System Foundation awarded a $7,000 grant to the Crime Watch Committee of the Staples Motley Area Chamber of Commerce to initiate a Methamphetamine awareness and education program in the area. Communities included in the program are Staples, Motley, Pillager, Verndale, Eagle Bend, Browerville, Grey Eagle, Long Prairie, Sebeka, Menahga, Clarissa, Bertha and Hewitt. The first program will be held on September 23, 2004 at Central Lakes College, Staples campus. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend this educational program. The LHS Education Department will work collaboratively with community members, businesses, Police Departments and other organizations during this program.
2004-2005 Annual Theme - CHOOSE TO BE FIT & FABULOUS
The more knowledgeable you are about health topics, your healthcare system, and ways to develop a healthy lifestyle, the more likely you are to make wise choices and decisions about your health. According to research studies, individual choices are more important than any other factor influencing personal health and well-being. The little things you do each day are likely to affect your personal well-being.
Lakewood Health System Foundation provided an opportunity for residents in the Lakewood Health System service area to participate in an 8 month health promotion program.
The first 100 people to register for this program received free health screenings as well as incentives to encourage a more active lifestyle.
The health screenings included a monthly blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose checks at the beginning and end of the program, which will occur in October and again in April, monthly health information and much more.
