Long Range Planning
As part of your long range financial planning, you might want to take advantage of the fact that there are no limits to the amounts deductible as charitable gifts from the estate for federal tax purposes. For this reason, after providing adequately for loved ones, many taxpayers will choose to voluntarily redirect a portion of their estates for charitable use rather than paying estate or gift taxes. There are many ways to provide charitable contributions as part of your estate planning process. These options include giving through your will, through living trusts, life insurance and through retirement plans. You may wish to discuss this with financial advisors which ideas may be most beneficial to your situation.
Real Estate
When you give property you have owned longer than one year, you are entitled to an income tax deduction for the full current value of the asset, not just the amount you paid for it. All capital gains tax which would be due on a sale of the property is avoided. You are in effect, allowed to use the "paper Profit" in your investments to reduce the amount of income tax you would otherwise owe.
Stocks
Gifts of appreciated securities or stocks can be one of the most advantageous ways of giving. Consult your financial advisor for specific advice.
Life Insurance
There are several ways to give a gift to the Lakewood Health System Foundation through existing life insurance policies you may own. Consult your financial advisor for specific advice.
Creating a Living Trust or Annuity
Consider naming Lakewood Health System Foundation as the beneficiary to your living trust or create a Charitable Gift Annuity. Both options will pay an income for life to you or a loved one and benefit the Foundation. Consult your financial advisor for specific advice.
