Electronic picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) have been developed to provide storage, quick retrieval, and access to images. Electronic images and reports are transmitted digitally via PACS, which eliminates the need to manually file, retrieve, or transport films. These images can be viewed on high definition computer screens, providing more detail and clarity.
What this means for patients of Lakewood Health System is that we can send and receive your images digitally – to and from facilities. This way, you don’t have to carry them around, and we don’t have to send the actual films. In addition, the necessary materials (and waste generated) to process films are also eliminated, therefore reducting costs and environmental hazards.
